We've been producing custom built drum kits for over 30 years, so we've learnt a thing or two along the way. One of the most important factors in building a custom drum is to understand the drummers needs from the beginning.
A cracking, yet full bodied snare drum to cut through a wall of guitar? A wide open tom sound? Controlled sustain?
Through our technical knowledge and playing experience (yes we're all drummers here), we can advise on the best type of Sleishman drum/kit that will best suit your needs... and then some!
Whenever we receive a custom enquiry, it's absolutely essential to us that we find out the musical setting(s) that the drum is going be played in.
All Sleishman custom drums are built to order out of only the finest materials.
Options...
* A wide range of exotic veneers are available
* Ply amounts and types are virtually limitless. This gives total control over shell thickness and resonance. Eg: Want to have 6ply maple/jarrah toms and 8ply maple/mahogany floor and bass? No problem.
*Sizes- We can do everything from 6" toms to 18" Floors. 16" to 26" Bass Drums.
* Finishes... Totally custom here as well. Our professional spray painter can match just about any colour or finish type. WE DO NOT WRAP SHELLS. So any finishes associated with wraps would have to be taken on a case by case basis.
*Powder Coating... We can color coat hardware. Just remember it doesn't last as long as chrome.
Our snare shell diameters range from cracking 10” effect snares through to full- bodied 14” drums and standard depths range from 3” to 8” (increasing by depth increments of 0.5”).
With a wide array of premium Australian hardwoods at our doorstep, we can create a snare drum second to none.

South East Australian Blackwood (Open tone with warm note... Works at any tuning level)
Jarrah (Delivers cutting, dry snare response and complete sensitivity)
Rosegum (Bright tones and full bodied notes... Could suit any playing situation)

Our highly developed bearing edges are indeed another unique feature of the Sleishman Drum. Constant analysis has led us to creating an edge that enables our snares to resonate to their maximum with a controlled length of note.
Each drum is cut on precise routers to our standard, creating a perfect circumference and bearing edge position.
On top of a standard 45 degree inside cut, we also cut an outside edge that brings the diameter of a standard sized shell slightly in and away from the collar of the drum head. This allows for an even bearing edge to head seating position... This makes our drums even easier to tune and create even more sensitivity.
As we are on the subject of sensitivity, we should also mention here that our Snare Beds have also benefited from over thirty years of development. Each snare drum is carefully worked on to create a snare (wire) bed that enables complete control over the drums sensitivity at any tension.
Both bearing edges and the snare drum’s ‘snare bed’ are extremely important to any drums performance. We pride ourselves on our constant refinement in these areas.
